In 2025, The Seafarers’ Charity awarded over £2.7m through 60 grants to 53 organisations supporting seafarers in need and their families.

Our grant funding supports frontline organisations and projects that provide essential help for seafarers and their families in crisis. Each grant application is assessed against our core goals to ensure the support provided to ensure that your donations go to where the need is greatest.

CCDL Innovations Ltd

Funding for a Policy Officer role to write a policy brief on fishers’ mental health support access and develop practical outreach materials including pocket tide timetables with embedded mental health resources.

Amount awarded: £7,400

Southampton Solent University

Funding for research on cadet retention and support, from the first day of enrolment through to obtaining a Certificate of Competency, to gain an understanding of the financial, social, and structural challenges cadets face. This will enable charities, maritime colleges, sponsoring companies, and industry bodies to design targeted interventions that improve their experiences and increase retention.

International Seafarers' Welfare and Assistance Network

Funding to develop ‘Safe at sea… it takes all of us!’ campaign to reduce abuse, bullying, harassment, discrimination, and violence at sea by promoting allyship behaviours; specifically, to translate into Hindi and Tagalog to equip Indian and Filipino crews with culturally relevant tools to foster safer, more inclusive onboard cultures.

Befrienders Worldwide

Funding for Befrienders Worldwide to deliver regular social media promotions that keep seafarers’ emotional wellbeing in the public eye, support the Seafarers Emotional Support Service, and strengthen BW’s overall media presence.

Amount awarded: £5,000

Global Maritime Forum

The project "Charting Change: From Stories to Safer Seas" aims to develop a digital campaign to collect personal stories and raise awareness about the issue of sexual misconduct at sea. The stories and data collected will provide an evidence base for the development of a standardised global maritime framework for identifying, responding to, and sanctioning sexual misconduct at sea.

UK Sailing Academy

Funding for a Repayable Bursary Fund to remove financial barriers for people from disadvantaged backgrounds to access accredited maritime training, covering essential costs and repaid once participants are in work.
