The Seafarers' Charity operates four main grant programmes to provide funding to organisations supporting the safety and welfare needs of seafarers and their families.

Main Grant Programme

Our main grant programme is focused on providing funding for charities and not-for-profit organisations, delivering safety initiatives and welfare services to seafarers and fishers.

Merchant Navy Fund

Merchant Navy Fund is a joint fundraising and grants programme operated in partnership with the Merchant Navy Welfare Board. It is focused on funding welfare services which support the UK’s merchant seafarers.

COVID-19 Emergency Fund

A short-term and one-off £2m grant programme established in 2020 to provide additional support to maritime welfare charities who stepped up and innovated their services to support seafarers through the pandemic, as well as those maritime welfare services which had their ability to generate income impacted as a consequence of lockdown restrictions, such as seafarer centres. Now closed to new applications.

Seafarers International Relief Fund

Established in 2021, Seafarers International Relief Fund was a partnership between the shipping industry and maritime welfare charities to support seafarers in India through the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic. To-date over $1.1m has been donated to the Fund to support maritime disasters impacting seafarers in other countries. The Fund is now closed to new applications.
