In 2025, The Seafarers’ Charity awarded over £2.7m through 60 grants to 53 organisations supporting seafarers in need and their families.

Our grant funding supports frontline organisations and projects that provide essential help for seafarers and their families in crisis. Each grant application is assessed against our core goals to ensure the support provided to ensure that your donations go to where the need is greatest.

International Seafarers' Welfare and Assistance Network

Funding to develop ‘Safe at sea… it takes all of us!’ campaign to reduce abuse, bullying, harassment, discrimination, and violence at sea by promoting allyship behaviours; specifically, to translate into Hindi and Tagalog to equip Indian and Filipino crews with culturally relevant tools to foster safer, more inclusive onboard cultures.

Amount awarded: £15,200

Seafarers Hospital Society

Funding to support 30 potentially neurodivergent seafarers in accessing a formal diagnosis, through a grant-making scheme that includes private assessment and travel costs.

Amount awarded: £30,000

World Maritime University

Funding for research into actionable recommendations that can strengthen the global response to seafarer abandonment, addressing implementation challenges, with a focus on major labour-supplying countries.

Amount awarded: £75,000

Institute for Human Rights & Business

Funding for a two-year project to collectively advocate for the eradication of illegal seafarer recruitment fees – including advocacy, guidance and awareness-raising.

Amount awarded: £64,062

The Nautical Institute

Continued funding for the Bursary Scheme created in 2024 for seafarers from low GDP countries to attend The Nautical Institute’s Leadership & Management training courses which are aimed at addressing toxic leadership within the maritime industry.

Amount awarded: £30,000

Seafarers Hospital Society (for NeurodiversAtSea)

Funding to support 10-12 potential neurodivergent seafarers in accessing a formal diagnosis, through a pilot grant making scheme that includes private assessment, and travel costs.
