In 2023, The Seafarers’ Charity awarded £2.4m in grants to 50 organisations supporting seafarers in need and their families.

Our grant funding supports frontline organisations and projects that provide essential help for seafarers and their families in crisis. Each grant application is assessed against our core goals to ensure the support provided to ensure that your donations go to where the need is greatest.

Maritime Charities Group - Nautilus Welfare Fund

Co-funding of a new six-month research project by the Seafarers International Research Centre, Cardiff University, into the port-based welfare needs of women seafarers.

Amount awarded: £20,000

Islay & Jura Community Enterprises Ltd

Grant to deliver services and activities which support current and retired seafarers families and dependants on the Scottish Hebridean islands of Islay & Jura to improve mental and physical health and wellbeing.

Amount awarded: £10,000

International Seafarers' Welfare & Assistance Network

Funding for the Seafarers Emergency Fund (SEF) which provides immediate, essential aid to seafarers and families of seafarers, who are directly involved in sudden or unforeseen crises, including COVID-19 cases and welfare issues

Amount awarded: £75,000

Cobhair Bharraigh SCIO

Core funding of support services involved in delivering Day Care and Home Support to improve quality of life for elderly seafarers living with dementia, mental, physical or sensory impairment who are isolated, lonely or frail in Scotland.

Amount awarded: £12,500

Age UK Wirral

Grant funding to address social isolation amongst the most frail older ex-seafarers at Mariners' Park, Wallasey through activities and events.

Amount awarded: £36,200

Sailors' Society

A grant awarded by the Seafarers' International Relief Fund for the distribution of 4,000 COVID-19 care kits as well as a medical helpline for seafarers in Philippines. The kit includes: pulseoximeter, digital thermometer, hand sanitisers, mask, medicine & vitamins, and information/education leaflet.
