Published in 2018, the Fishing for a Future research report focused on 41 fishing ports in the UK and sought to hear direct from fishing communities about the challenges they faced.

The health, literacy, port infrastructure and funding challenges identified provided an evidence base which informed The Seafarers’ Charity’s strategic approach to funding support for the sector.

From this research emerged The Seafarers’ Charity funding for the Fathom Podcast, the Fishing Animateur project and the first two years of The Fishermen’s Mission & Seafarers’ Hospital Society SeaFit programme. Funding was also provided for various safety initiatives and port infrastructure development.
