Statement on the Red Sea attacks
The Seafarers' Charity condemns the Red Sea attacks on Magic Seas and Eternity C. Innocent seafarers have been killed or injured, and many are still missing. These are blameless victims who were simply doing their job.
We offer sincere condolences to the families and colleagues of seafarers killed or injured in these attacks, and hope that all missing crew members are safely recovered.
Seafarers should be able to work safely at sea. Instead, they are being unfairly forced into the firing line. Seafarers are the backbone of global trade, keeping countries supplied with food, fuel and medicine. They should not have to risk their lives to do their job.
As an immediate first step, we back the call of the International Maritime Organization for intensified diplomatic efforts to reduce the threats facing seafarers in the region.
Everyone must play their part to protect the world's seafarers.
