Seapost - May 2025
The latest e-newsletter from The Seafarers' Charity.
We’re continuing our Spring Appeal, standing alongside seafaring families who need hope the most. Thanks to our supporters' generosity, we’ve already supported hundreds of families and young people across the UK, but there is still more to do.
This month, we marked the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (#VEDay80), commemorating thousands of civilian seafarers who gave their lives in the Second World War, and joined communities across the UK to commemorate National Fishing Remembrance Day, honouring all those lost in one of the world’s most dangerous professions.
Our Chief Executive, Deborah Layde, took part in the I EXIST TOO 2025 Forum, delivering the keynote speech and championing greater inclusion for LGBTQ+ professionals across the maritime and fishing sectors.
We also launched a new guide, Thrive in Fishing, developed with The Nautical Institute to support those considering a career in the UK fishing industry.
We’re proud to spotlight John Corp, a dedicated #TeamSeafarersKGFS fundraiser who completed his ninth London Marathon for us - raising over £26,000 to date.
Looking ahead, our flagship 24 Peaks Challenge returns on 5–6 July, offering a chance to push your limits for a great cause. And inviting you to meet us at Seawork 2025 in Southampton this June, where we’ll be exhibiting at Stand L17.
