Seapost - June 2026
The latest e-newsletter from The Seafarers' Charity.
In this edition, we reflect on The Seafarers’ Charity’s 109th Annual Meeting, which brought together delivery partners, supporters and representatives from across the maritime sector at Lloyd’s Register Foundation’s headquarters in London. The meeting celebrated progress made over the past year, addressed governance matters, and looked ahead to emerging challenges affecting seafarers and their families worldwide.
We wish good luck to everyone taking part in the 24 Peaks Challenge 2026, taking on 33 miles and 13,000 ft of ascent across the Lake District in support of seafarers and their families. With multiple challenge levels available, participants will be helping to raise vital funds for seafarer welfare.
We also highlight our recent engagement with global maritime leaders in Athens, Vancouver and Kenya, reinforcing the importance of placing seafarer welfare at the heart of maritime safety, resilience and decision-making across the sector.
We share our webinar, “Protecting Your Mental Health in Uncertain Times: Practical Wellbeing for Seafarers in Conflict Zones”, produced in collaboration with OCIMF. The session provides practical, evidence-based support for seafarers working in high-risk and uncertain environments.
We also release the official trailer for our new animated film series, Smart Seafaring – A Safe Return, which highlights the growing issue of seafarer abandonment and provides practical guidance to help seafarers and their families recognise warning signs and seek support when needed.
We announce a new research initiative led by World Maritime University, in collaboration with TK Foundation and ITF Seafarers’ Trust, to examine how international protections for seafarers are implemented in practice and to better understand the human impact of seafarer abandonment.
This month’s Sea Views podcast features Guard Safety's Darren Guard discussing fishing safety, mental health in the fishing sector, and practical approaches to improving safety culture and helping fishers return home safely.
Finally, we celebrate Pride Month 2026 by reaffirming our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, and by sharing resources that help create a workplace where everyone feels respected, supported and able to be themselves.
