Seapost - July 2026

The latest e-newsletter from The Seafarers' Charity.

In this edition, we invite you to get involved in our Fly the Red Ensign campaign for Merchant Navy Day on 3 September, as people, organisations and communities across the UK come together to recognise the vital contribution merchant seafarers make to everyday life.

We also congratulate everyone who took part in the 24 Peaks Challenge 2026, where nearly 100 supporters from across the maritime industry raised almost £80,000 to support seafarers in need and their families, while celebrating this year's award winners and the incredible teamwork and determination shown throughout the weekend.

This month, we shine a spotlight on the Fishing Animateur project, delivered by Cornwall Rural Community Charity, which helps fishers across England and Wales access funding for safer vessels, improved equipment and more resilient livelihoods by removing the complexity of grant applications.

We also celebrate Day of the Seafarer 2026 with the launch of 'Smart Seafaring. A Safe Return', our new animated film series designed to help seafarers recognise the warning signs of abandonment, understand their rights and know what to do if they find themselves at risk.

We share an interview with our Business Development Director, Temi Binitie, who speaks to Seatrade Maritime News about the challenges facing today's seafarers, the realities of life at sea, and how The Seafarers' Charity is driving change through funding, advocacy and collaboration across the maritime sector.

Looking ahead, we invite readers to join us at the Annual National Service for Seafarers on 14 October at St Paul's Cathedral, as we give thanks for the vital contribution of seafarers across every maritime sector and remember those who have lost their lives at sea.

Finally, to mark Maritime Safety Week 2026, we showcase a number of our initiatives helping to make life at sea safer for everyone, highlighting the projects and partnerships improving safety, wellbeing and resilience across the maritime sector.
