Commodore Barry Bryant CVO RN
The Seafarers’ Charity regrets to announce that Commodore Barry Bryant CVO RN, a former director general of the charity, has died aged 76.
Commodore Bryant was a tireless advocate for the maritime sector, who spent 17 years as our director general when we were known as Seafarers UK, before retiring in 2019.
He previously served for 34 years in the Royal Navy, including as a Lynx Flight Commander in the Falklands Conflict, and commanded HM Ships Hermione, Jupiter, and Endurance.
Paul Butterworth AFNI, Chair of The Seafarers’ Charity, said:
"Barry brought a uniquely caring touch to all that he took on, and he did so with great gusto and enthusiasm. He was, for over 20 years, a giant in the maritime and military charitable sector and his loss will be mourned by all those who had the great pleasure to work with him."
We will be remembering Barry and his time at our charity more fully in the coming months. For now, our thoughts are with his wife Tracy, his children, and his wider family at this difficult time.
