Several of our delivery partners are currently providing vital help to seafarers affected by the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz.
At least 3,000 vessels and at least 20,000 seafarers are currently stuck in the Persian Gulf. Seafarers face immediate threats to their safety, and several have already tragically lost their lives.

The challenges they face outside the immediate threat of attack include:
- Hypervigilance (an ‘always on’ mentality)
- Increased stress and fatigue
- No crew change (meaning more time apart from loved ones)
- Food and water running low
- Pressure on seafarers to sail into the conflict zone
The Seafarers’ Charity is proud to fund various organisations who are on the front lines along with seafarers, bringing them much needed support during their time of need. These include:
ISWAN; a confidential helpline for seafarers facing difficulties including mental health challenges.
ISWAN has also published a guide titled ‘Coping with Conflict’.
Mission to Seafarers: a long-standing charity which provides counselling, ship visits, port chaplains and more.
MtS is encouraging seafarers affected by the Middle East crisis to get in touch with their team directly, or to download the ‘Happy@Sea’ app.
Stella Maris: a long-term delivery partner whose chaplains are present in many ports across the Middle East.
The Crisis Response Network: run by Sailors’ Society, this is a free global service providing 24/7 care and support to seafarers, their families and shipping companies following critical incidents.
If you are a seafarer affected by the current Strait of Hormuz crisis, or know someone who is, this help is available.
And if you wish to support seafarers facing crisis around the world, The Seafarers’ Charity has the reach, experience and influence to direct donations to where they are most needed.
