William, a serving officer dad is married with four children. His youngest triplets, James, Michael and Peter, were born three months early and had to spend four months in hospital. Due to lack of oxygen at birth, all three brothers have varying degrees of cerebral palsy, sensory loss and learning delay.

The family have coped magnificently over the years with the physical demands that the condition has placed on their three sons. However, Naval Children’s Charity, thanks to funding from The Seafarers’ Charity, has been able to be there for the family throughout the years to provide support which would have otherwise been beyond their means and not available through any statutory bodies.

When the triplets were quite young, the Charity was able to help obtain special tricycles as recommended by an Occupational Therapist to help two of the triplets, Peter and Michael, with their mobility, and provide financial support towards an electric wheelchair for their third triplet, James, who has moresignificant disability needs.

When the boys were aged 16 and started to attend college, the family also received financial help to cover the cost of transportation to and from school to enable the triplets to lead as normal a teenage life as possible.

In the past couple of years, James had to have a high-risk surgery which hugely impacted on his quality of life. The family identified a wheelchair which would enable him to continue to attend college with his brothers and friends and improve his overall wellbeing. The wheelchair also enables him to stand, which allows him to manage some of the long-term outcomes from his surgery and, most importantly, interact with his friends ‘standing up’.

With the funding from The Seafarers’ Charity, Naval Children’s Charity has been able to support the family with grants totalling £32,520.

‘We are delighted with how we have managed to support this family in the face of such adversity.’ - Naval Children’s Charity
